Towards Zero Waste Online Presentation For Summer By The Sea

Hey guys, I’m not likely to take on any more speaking opportunities (personal choice), so I wanted to share with you this online presentation that I recorded for the 2021 Summer by the Sea Program before it closes on the 28th February.

Each year, Coastcare and Parks Victoria partner with a whole range of organisations to deliver some really engaging, educational activities across Victoria’s coastal and marine areas as part of Summer by the Sea. The aim is to teach people about how special and rich in natural and cultural values these areas are, but to also let them know about the issues and threats that are affecting them. Another aim is to build people up so that they adopt responsible behaviours to look after these places, advocate for good management, and share their knowledge with lots of other people. Events have always been well received by locals and visitors to the coast and I think it’s a fantastic education program! This year is the first time the program has been delivered online so any feedback you can provide in the feedback links would be much appreciated.

My history with the Summer By The Sea program goes back almost twenty years when I got my first job out of university with Waterwatch at the West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority. Over the years I was involved in delivering a variety of hands on activities to raise awareness about water quality issues. It is a delight to return to the program as ‘Gippsland Unwrapped’ to talk about how small every day actions can make a big difference in reducing your household waste and be a force for positive change, which helps to protect our marine and coastal ecosystems.
